The smallest of England's counties by population, Rutland is an idyllic haven set in the heart of England, with strong links to the Midlands and the south adding to its strategic location. With one of the highest rates of employment in the country, and boasting opportunity and amenities far outstripping its size, Rutland is a great place to both work and live.

Road ![]()
As a small county, Rutland doesn't have any motorways of its own, but nonetheless has road links to the main cities nearby, which in turn facilitate transport throughout the rest of the UK. Leicester is just 25 miles out of the county, while Nottingham is also under 30 miles away. The A47 provides the main route to Leicester, where stronger motorway connections link out to cities of importance.
Rail
Rutland does benefit from good rail links, with Oakham station on the Birmingham to Peterborough Line, providing direct transport to Peterborough and Birmingham in addition to indirect rail links to London from stations along the main line.
Air ![]()
Birmingham airport is perhaps the largest in the vicinity, offering flights to both UK and international destinations. There are also strong rail links to Stansted airport, and other public transport services providing access to the major transport hubs in and around the City.
Ferries
Situated in the East Midlands, ports at Hull and in the south are most accessible from Rutland county, offering routes primarily to the Netherlands and France from the UK mainland.
